Sounds of Summer

For the past five years, our house has intermittently hosted the sounds of a trombone (and continues to as J prepares for his junior year of high school next year). Z entering the sixth grade gave him the opportunity to begin in band, and he tried out for percussion and made it.

The snare is a recent addition to the arsenal of instruments, and it’s loud. But we know we won’t always have the privilege of hearing him practice, of watching him play. So we revel in the noise of trombone practice and of drum practice.

The more things change

Fast forward a bit from the time I last posted here to now and *years* have passed quickly, like all of a sudden someone figured out how to be efficient with minutes passing, hit a button and WHAMMO it's 2019.

I'm in my mid-40s. I've been married 20 years. Our kids are 16 and 12. My mom passed away. I worked a job nearly nine years and then got a new one. We painted the house. Got a second dog. Replaced cars. Added a third car (gulp!). Went on a two-week road trip last year (photographic evidence above).

So what now?

That's a very, very good question.
